Manual Lymph Drainage what is it?

Manual Lymph Drainage is a technique developed in Germany over One hundred years ago by Dr. Emil Vodder. He first developed this modality to help with inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis). After being refined and researched, it was discovered this technique has many health and beauty benefits; it has become the modality of choice in Europe in their Clinics of Lymphology and spas making it the 3rd most recommended treatment in Europe today. MLD is used to help increase lymph flow. Increased lymph flow removes harmful substances from the tissues and increases immune function. Basically it’s used to treat a build up of fluid that can occur after the lymph system is compromised, most often happening after surgery, but can also be caused by trauma, poor diet, medications, or stress.

What would happen if you never had the oil in your car changed? Your car would become sluggish and not perform to the best of its ability; in time, it will break down. Think of the lymph in your body like oil in your car. It needs to be filtered so your body will perform as best as possible. The filtration process in your body is done with muscle movement, deep breathing, a healthy diet, and plenty of hydration. With the addition of MLD, cellular debris (a component of lymph) is eradicated as lymphatic movement is stimulated by the gentle strokes of MLD.

Conditions that have been treated with MLD? Reduction in edemas, such as Edema, Lymphedema, Relief of chronic pain, Insomnia, headaches, Tension headaches, Migraines, stress, Reduction in the symptoms of painful auto-immune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome and Fibromyalgia, digestive issues (Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, etc), Acne, Alopecia, eczema, Ear Infections, Alergies, sinusitis, tendonitis, Fractures, Joint Replacement, Dislocations, Rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, Neck Pain/Whiplash, Carpal Tunnel syndrome, Scars, Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, swelling during and after pregnancy, reduction in pain, swelling, scarring, Regeneration of tissue including burns, bruises, stretch marks, wounds, increased joint range of motion, reduced recovery time, pre- and post-surgical treatment, such as Liposuction, Face Lifts, cosmetic surgery, dental work, such as cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, orthopedic surgery, Breast Implants, C-Section, Mastectomy, stroke,Parkinson’s, Diabetic Neuropathy, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Bell’s Palsy, and Alzheimers.

What To Expect

Manual Lymph Drainage is gentle pain free and extremely relaxing, consisting of a slow, rhythmic progression of light strokes, and gentle stretching of the skin that can be compared to the light strokes of massage. Clearing superficial congestion from the lymph system creating a vacuum, pulling up fluid from deeper, more distant parts of the body. As a result Lymph fluid starts moving and flowing, instead of remaining stagnant. This relaxing Lymphatic Drainage
treatment is performed on bare skin, with no oil.

You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. You can expect an increased need to urinate soon after a treatment and for several hours thereafter, as the goal of MLD is to remove excess fluids from the tissues increasing lymph flow. As a result the excess fluids the body no longer needs are ready to be excreted as urine. We recommend that you drink 16 ounces of water with in the hour after an MLD session to replenish fluids mobilized during treatment.

Sessions

Sessions are conducted 5 days in a row for a minimum of 1 week. A single session will provide minimal results, often only lasting up to a week. Performing the 5 sessions within a week will clear out the system and provide you the client with far better results. Additional weeks may be recommended to increase results. In preparation for surgery, it will be a total of 5 sessions in the week before surgery (no sessions 24 hours before) and 5 sessions post op (48 hours after). Maintenance sessions are then conducted every 3 months.

If you have never had a treatment, now is the time to get one! Please consume at least 16 ounces of clean, fresh water prior to your MLD treatment and 16 ounces within the hour after treatment. This will insure that there is enough water in the body to help the lymph fluid move. If you are dehydrated your lymph fluid is to thick and can’t move with the strokes of MLD alone.
